Nov 2019:  Are you a business person on LinkedIn? Yes? Then why not join the 'On Two Wheels' group?

If you have a profile account on LinkedIn, then why not join the 'On Two Wheels' group, where you will be able to interact with other like-minded business folks.

About the 'On Two Wheels' group

Whether you're a seasoned Sportive rider, a lover of cycling holidays, a dedicated fundraiser for charity, a novice mountain biker, a passionate Strava segment collector, motivated by the impact of cars on the environment or simply getting back to a healthy lifestyle this online club could be for you. The fundamental purpose of ‘On Two Wheels’ is to unite the cyclists on LinkedIn who feel they would, could, might, or should benefit from training plans (coaching), nutritional advice, strength conditioning guidance, flexibility tips or a bike fitting (but have never 'dared' to find out!)

It's a place where you can ask any bikey question that you want, no matter how tenuous the connection to cycling (within reason!). If none of the members know the answer, then that’s where our networks can help. We all know people who know people who know stuff, don’t we!

So, rest assured that you don't need to be 'elite', 'quite good' or a triathlete to join ‘On Two Wheels’. If you are, that’s fine but if you’ve only just (re)discovered the freedom and benefits of being on two wheels, then that’s fine too!

Nov 2019:  Our advice for cyclists considering using power meters for the first time is now available on Sportive.com

Before you invest a significant amount of cash and buy a power meter, why don't you have a quick read of our latest article on Sportive.com?

The article is called '7 Questions every newbie should ask about power meters' and you can find it here:

https://www.sportive.com/cycling-training/538682/cycling-power-meters-7-questions-every-newbie-should-ask

Oct 2019:  Networking events being planned for business people that share our passion for cycling.

As the director of my own business, I attend quite a few small scale 'networking' events. There's nothing wrong with that of course and, indeed, I find the occasional contact but I do see the same type of businesses time and time again.

HR, IT, Marketing, Employee Services, Web design agencies, Social Media gurus - they are always represented.  I am, however, usually the only person representing a business based on cycling!

So, I am wondering if there would be an appetite for a regular, informal networking event, for business folks that share a passion for cycling. You don't have to be connected to the cycling industry but simply enjoy getting out on two wheels.  That's a simple ice-breaker then - 'Did you get out for a ride last weekend?'

I am based in Northamptonshire, UK and would be prepared to organise an inaugural event if there is sufficient interest. I even have a venue in mind!

My initial thought is that this could be held on a quarterly basis, so that it does not become tiresome or a burden on other day-2-day activities.

Please email andy@sportivecyclecoaching.co.uk if you are interested and/or prepared to support me in this venture in some way.

Thanks!

Oct 2019:  Sportive Cycle Coaching took part in Barclaycard's 'Health Street' exhibition at their Northampton HQ

What a great day we had at Barclaycard's Health Street exhibition!

There was lots of interest to understand that cycle coaching / training isn't just for elite athletes and you certainly don't have to be a ‘good’ cyclist to ‘deserve’ a coach. It's perfectly valid to be coached even when you are a complete novice and, I believe, achieving your first 50km ride, if you’ve been on the couch for the last 10 years, is just as valid a reason to be coached as trying ride 100 miles in 4 hours. In fact, I’d say it’s probably a better reason.

Lots of interest, too, in the bike fitting service. I think everyone who discussed riding 'admitted' that they suffered at least one of pins & needles, neck-aches, knee pain or saddle soreness. Bike fittings will certainly help to alleviate those discomforts!

36 people also took part in the competition to guess how many miles I have ridden in the last 10 years and win one of 3 great prizes. The answers ranged from 8000 miles to 330,000 but there was actually a draw for the second place prize, so a tie-break question has been sent.  The 6 prize winnners will no doubt be collecting their discount codes very soon!

Thanks to all at Barclaycard, especially Jane Capps, Kelly Gamble, Lucy Owen and our business partner, Hotel Lungomare Cesenatico, for their contribution to the prizes.

Oct 2019:  As a result of our recent stay in Cesenatico, our partnership with Hotel Lungomare is now even stronger, with better benefits if you mention us in the booking process.

Please refer to the Partners page for the latest information on our business relationship with Hotel Lungomare

Sep 2019:  Our 8th ride report on www.sportive.com is from Cesenatico, Italy, home of Marco Pantani and the eponymously named Gran Fondo

Late September brought the opportunity to ride in the Marco Pantani Gran Fondo and stay in Cesenatico, Italy, at our business partner's hotel, the Hotel Lungomare

Apart from the unseasonal weather, it was a fantastic event with excellent marshalling and great post ride pasta, as you'd expect in Italy!

Sep 2019:  We've been invited to take part in the annual 'Health Street' exhibition, hosted at Barclaycard Northampton!

Engaging the services of cycling coach should not just be reserved for good athletes that are trying to get a little bit better.

We firmly believe that those services should be available to anyone that wants to get a bit fitter, ride a little faster or go a bit further. In fact, if you are using cycling as a means to try to engage in a healthier lifestyle, then I'd say that coaching (and encouragement) is even more valuable than it is to an already fit athlete.

Organisations such as Barclaycard are recognising this too and their 'Health Street' platform gives SME businesses the chance to showcase their offerings.

Can't wait until October!

Aug 2019:  The wonderful land of trolls and tunnels, Norway, is the location for our 7th ride report on www.sportive.com

Early August meant that we were off to ride in a Haute Route 3-day event, centred in Stavanger, Norway.  It was an incredible experience, with one of the rides starting from 300m below sea-level.

It's been a busy summer here at Sportive Cycle Coaching with many opportunities to ride in some wonderful locations. In August, we were very lucky to be able to ride in the Vosges area of France and, in particular, take on the brute of a climb called La Plance des Belles Filles.

July 2019:  Sportive Cycle Coaching's fifth article is now online on www.sportive.com, highlighting our recent visit to the Castello di Santa Cristina

It would have been rude to not visit our business partner, Castello di Santa Cristina, to see how they operate so we did for a weekend in July!  Italy was in the middle of a heatwave but, fortunately, the weather was a lot kinder on the day of our ride and we survived to tell the tale!

April has been a very busy time for us with several news items this month! In fact, you may have noticed a theme in April's News items, namely partnerships with organisations that cater for cyclists-on-holiday and why not? April 2019:  Sportive Cycle Coaching is now in partnership with Castello di Santa Cristina

Here at Sportive Cycle Coaching we love a good holiday in Italy and we believe we've found something very special in area of Italy that is just sublime.

The roads near the area of the Santa Cristina Castle are hassle and hustle free, the scenery is gorgeous and some of the nearby towns are breathtaking in their beauty. Pitigliano is a sight to behold, when the cliff faces are illuminated at night.  How do we know all of this? Well, we've ridden there and a report on that ride will shortly be available on www.sportive.com

In fact, this is all so exciting that we've entered in to a partnership with them, to provide bike fittings and training plans to their guests at a discounted rate.

Even if you're not a cyclist, just mention Sportive Cycle Coaching when you contact the Santa Cristina Castle and they will make sure you get the best available rate, as well as a personal service that is second to none!

April 2019:  We're looking to find someone who wants to ride bikes in Tuscany as a guide for a hotel.  Yes, seriously!

One of Sportive Cycle Coaching's partners is an established hotel offering a true Italian experience while cycling in southern Tuscany.  The general manager has asked us if we can help him find a guide to lead cycle rides for hotel visitors for the coming season, May – September, 2019.

Any ability to speak Italian is, of course, an advantage but more important is a love of cycling and a desire to work hard to exceed the hotel guests’ expectations.

If you know a young person that would be interested in this [perfect?] job for the summer months, then please get in touch with us.

(If you don't recognise the famous cyclist sketched in the picture, then you'll need to do some research before saying you are interested in the job!)

April 2019:  Sportive Cycle Coaching will be at the PAV I.T. Services Sales Kickoff

Sportive Cycle Coaching is very excited to have been invited to the Sales Kickoff for PAV i.t. services in May in the Peak District.

We are not elitist in any shape or form – our biking services are aimed at ordinary people doing extraordinary cycling challenges or just simply wanting to be a bit healthier, a bit fitter and a bit more comfortable on their bikes!

While it is true that many organisations support employee fundraising charity rides or offer ‘Bike2Work’ schemes, it is also true that few businesses try to connect their employees to additional value add services that help them enjoy their cycling even more.

It takes leaders such as Nathan Collins to recognise this gap and the benefits of a fitter healthier, motivated and (hopefully) happier workforce that cycling can bring.

Feb 2019:  Sportive Cycle Coaching is exhibiting at the London Bike Show

Sportive Cycle Coaching will be exhibiting at the London Bike Show from March 29-31 at the Excel in London. www.thelondonbikeshow.co.uk   It is the UK’s largest cycling exhibition, with more than 37000 people expected to attend over the 3 days.

This year, it is going to be officially opened by the reigning Olympic Triathlon Gold & Silver medal winners - the Brownlee brothers, Jonny and Alistair, so we will definitely be doing some autograph hunting!

There are over 200 other exhibitors at the combined Cycle and Triathlon show, including many industry giants.

I have attended the London Bike Show as a punter several times but never as exhibitor. It’s incredibly nerve racking and exciting at the same time!

Feb 2019:  Sportive Cycle Coaching is working with the Cynthia Spencer Hospice Charity

Sportive Cycle Coaching is very pleased to announce that we will be working with the Cynthia Spencer Hospice Charity, to provide preparation and training tips to volunteers raising funds for them through cycling.

Over the coming months, we will be providing advice for cyclists to help them prepare for the annual Cycle4Cynthia ride https://lnkd.in/e8EHhQk or take on one of the multi-day events (https://lnkd.in/e4NrF3e)

Feb 2019:  Sportive Cycle Coaching supports British Cycling's #OneInaMillion campaign

Sportive Cycle Coaching is going to do its bit to help the British Cycling and Sport England strategy to help get an additional one million women on bikes by 2020. The HSBC UK Breeze programme https://lnkd.in/d-y9gS2 is an initiative to address the two main issues that stop more ladies cycling – Confidence and Safety - both of which are tied to Infrastructure (lack of) and Driver behaviour.

It is also a great way for ladies to get (re)involved in cycling and offers a simple search for Routes, Rides, Groups and Buddies in the local area. If these barriers are removed, then statistics indicate that 36% of UK ladies (9,720,000) would like to cycle more regularly. We still won’t be as good as Denmark, where 53% of riders are ladies but at least we’ll be going in the right direction!

How do we plan to help the initiative?

Once a month, we will provide a 100% free bike fitting service for a Northamptonshire lady. All you have to do is provide the name of someone that would benefit from this service.

The bike fitting can either be conducted at your house or place of work - they are all about improving comfort and efficiency as you ride your bike. We won't be trying to turn you in to the next Victoria Pendleton, unless you want us to!
